This is a story about the old Chinese national capitalists, who struggled and developed in the chaotic times, became a generation of Confucian merchants at last.

The story happened in Zhen Jiang and was revolving around Zhen Jiang vinegar. Chu Qingping (performed by Li Yapeng)，the third young lord of Heng Jiang workshop, which was the magnate in the field of vinegar in Zhen Jiang，just came back from abroad. His father and brother were assassinated successively by haters. He inherited the family course and made the family business larger and stronger while he grew up gradually in the process of revenge.

Superficially, it was the conflict between Heng Jiang workshop and Jing He workshop. But in fact, it implied nationalism. Since Japanese brought off Jing He workshop, they valued the military position of the vinegar workshop. Civil conflict gradually became the national struggle.

故事发生在镇江，围绕着镇江“醋”展开，楚庆平(李亚鹏饰演)是镇江酿醋巨头恒江坊的三少爷，刚刚留洋回来，但是家门突遭不幸，父亲、兄弟接连被仇家暗杀，他继承了家业，在复仇过程中逐渐成长，并将家业发展壮大。表面上看，这是恒江坊和京和坊两家醋坊之间的争斗，内里却包含着民族大义，因为京和坊后来被日本人收买，日本人买下醋坊后，还看中了醋坊所在的军事要塞，民间矛盾逐渐上升到民族斗争。
