According to Shen Li (May Nov. 1123, the Year of Yelu jari, the King of Baclieu, with 6 months per year), the story happened about 500 years ago. At Buddha's birthday celebrations, Zhu Bajie took the invitation as wiper for loose bowels in an emergency, and laid Door God out to sneak into Lei Yin Temple. During the meal, he, Friar Sand and MOKO (Little White Dragon) threw dishes in the melee, which annoyed all gods, so they were reduced to Mortal World by Jade Emperor to re-suffer again.

By now, at the expiry of the 500-year term, Buddha required them to re-experience a pilgrimage for Buddhist scriptures as former. Only after steeling their minds can they return to the immortal world.

Unluckily, the arrogant and inveterate gambler Lady Queen Mother heard about this. She insisted on laying Tang Priest (San zang) a bet that she thought if Tang Priest and his three disciples didn't use modern vehicles, they won't start their pilgrimage on foot any more.

In order to get back to the fairy land, to win credit for their master, they four from then on set foot on the long and winding journey to the west...

故事发生於神历500年前，如来佛祖的生日宴会上，八戒因拉肚子，情急之下拿如来的请帖擦屁股，然后打昏门神混进雷音寺，吃饭时又和沙僧、小白龙乱扔碗碟一通混战，惹恼了众神，被玉皇大帝贬下人间重历尘劫，如今500年期满，如来要求他们师徒重来一遍当年的取经路，磨练心性方可重返仙界。此事不巧被骄横任性，嗜赌如命的王母娘娘听到，她强要与 唐僧打赌，认为他们师徒如不借用现代交通工具，再也不能徒步走在西天的路。为了重返仙界，为了给师傅争气，他们师徒从此又踏上了曲折而漫长的取经旅程……

本剧既充满神魔奇幻的色彩，又由於时过境迁，现在的取经路已今非昔比。他们师徒除拥有古老的刀、剑兵器外，身上又多了手提电脑、手机等与时俱进的现代工具，他们既可以玩QQ，又可以与天上各神仙互发Email、打移动手机通讯，全剧融入了大量现代的场面和幽默无厘头的语言，弥漫著超时代酷的气息。唐僧师徒上天入海，一会回到古老的社会中与白骨精、月光大王、龟精、红孩儿、牛魔王等妖怪血战，一会穿梭于现代大都市惩恶扬善，有时失败也不气馁……打破了时空的限制。他们一路坎坷一路欢笑，最终平安到达西天。
