In the summer of 1943, Japanese army is trying to annihilate the main force of the Eighth Route Army in Beishan areas. Officially informed by the political department, Liu Liang (acted by Hebing) is appointed as captain of a seven people detachment, escorting Wu Xiaojin, the correspondent of Kuomintang Central News Agency from the front to the Headquarter safe and sound. They must take a journey of 150 kilometers through the enemy-occupied areas within 10 days.
Liu Liang delicately choose the soldiers, including Yu Deshui, a sharp shooter, Du Mei, a doctor with superb medical skills, Li Wenquan, a ventriloquist, Sun Erfeng, an excellent Kongfu master, Qi Yongquan, an explosion expert, and Tie Baozhu, a master in wrestling.
They get ready and set out. Meeting Wu Xiaojin in the second military area section, they escort her to the Headquarter, too. Beyond their expectation, the encounter on the way changes their action plan. After the bout with the enemy, the detachment captures Japan officer Etou who is a descendent of samurai family which had been received by the Emperor of Japan. Moreover, they help the wife and daughter of Kuroda, A Japan captain.
On hearing the news that Etou is Captured, Japanese army sends the strong military strength led by information officer Hirano to chase Liu Liang’s detachment. The detachment runs into crisis many times all the way. However, by virtue of their wisdom and courage, they head off dangers in fierce battles
Though the contact with Etou, they accidentally find the plan of Japanese army. In order to destroy the attempt of Japanese army, Liuliang decides to take the plunge to return to the dangerous area after the detachment comes out off the enemy’s range of view. He wipes out the plot successfully and brings Xiaojin back safe and sound from the hand of Japanese army at the cost of his life.
Etou, who is deeply influenced by the toxin of militarism thoughts, becomes a soldier that support just and peace. Finally he takes the mission to escort Xiaojin to the Headquarter of the Eighth Route Army.
Severe test and interlaced feelings pave the way for two love stories. Liu Liang and Du Mei, revolutionary lovers, depart for ever before expressing their love. Xiaojin and Etou, who used to be lovers, meet again. It is in these ten days that they experience the mixed feelings and love that moves everyone.
It is really a short time for ten days compared with man’s whole life. However, in this anti-Japanese war, an excellent detachment consisting of seven people, a war correspondent from Kuomintang Central News Agency, a captive of Japanese officer, and a common peasant breaking away from the gangsters, experienced ten days of life and death…
